BBC Studios appoints new Managing Director, Global Distribution | Major companies | Business | News

With the intention of having a new spearhead for its next phase of growth in its global distribution division, the BBC’s commercial arm, BBC Studios, has announced the promotion of Rebecca Glashow to the newly created position of Managing Director of worldwide distribution.
Glashow (pictured) previously served as chairman of BBC Studios Americas since June 2020, overseeing the strategy and performance of the company’s business activities in the US, Canada and Latin America. In this role, she was responsible for launching the BBC Select documentary streaming service and BBC Podcasts and in September overseeing global digital news was added to her responsibilities.

Under Glashow, BBC Studios Americas has positioned itself for growth, expanding its partner relationships, strengthening its portfolio, launching OTT and subscription services, onboarding a new management team and cementing its place as the leading distributor of premium content on major networks and streaming platforms. , last year saw over 1,500 hours of programming licensed, including famous series such as I May Destroy You, Small Axe, The Green Planet and the hit children’s show Bluey.

Prior to joining BBC Studios – Americas, she was co-head of Viacom’s Awesomeness, leading all business operations and revenue efforts encompassing sales, marketing, research, distribution and production.
Glashow will take office on March 1 and become a member of the BBC Studio Executive Committee on the same date. In her new role, she will take on extensive responsibilities for BBC Studios (ex-UK & Ireland) global distribution portfolio, encompassing content sales, direct-to-consumer services, international channels, co-productions as well as continued responsibility for growth.
