Cheekwood Golf Club Partners with Nicklaus Design to Create Signature Golden Bear Golf Resort

NASHVILLE, Tennessee & PALM BEACH GARDENS, Florida – (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – The Cheekwood Golf Club in Franklin, Tennessee has partnered with Nicklaus Design, the recognized world leader in golf course design, to create an innovative and eco-friendly expansion with multiple possibilities for golf and outdoor recreation for people of all ages in mid-Tennessee and beyond.

Todd Jester, a Franklin resident and nationally recognized golf course architect with over 30 years of experience, is leading the transformation of the existing Cheekwood course into a premier golf facility.

“While golf has been around for over 500 years, over the past decade technology and innovation have enhanced our timeless game by developing new traditions and experiences that make the sport more accessible and enjoyable for generations to come.” , Jester said.

The centerpiece of the expansion is a nine-hole par three course accessible to the public and capable of hosting local, regional and national tournaments, as well as a seven-hole par three course that surrounds the driving range.

Nicklaus Design, who has completed more than 425 golf courses worldwide, will work in association with Jester Golf to create the course.

“Nicklaus Design is delighted and honored to work with Todd Jester,” said Paul Stringer, President of Nicklaus Design. “We are looking forward to creating something very special for Franklin and all golfers in Tennessee.”

Mike Hathaway, founding director of 906 Studio Architects + Interiors, has been chosen as the project architect for the collection of new buildings that will make up the Cheekwood Golf Club. Franklin-based 906 has built a reputation as one of the region’s most respected architectural firms, most notably as a design architect for the Harpeth Square development in downtown Franklin.

The full Cheekwood expansion will include:

  • Covered three-level punching stands combine cutting-edge technology with a family atmosphere

  • A driving range with soft and content lighting

  • Outdoor hitting stations and training areas that allow golf lessons and year-round recreation

  • The Golf Performance Center, where students of all ages will be taught by PGA professionals

  • A restaurant, golf house, and club facilities, with space to host social, corporate, and community gatherings

  • An attractive public trail and greenways connecting Cheekwood to the Franklin Park System

“There is a great need in our community for a place like this where businesses and families can come together and enjoy a well-managed, well-respected entertainment venue that meets Franklin’s high standards,” said said local businessman Paul Pratt, an investor in the project.

The dress code at Cheekwood will be similar to that of the PGA and LPGA tours. Hours of operation will be until 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and until 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The Town of Franklin owns the 54 acres on which the proposed expansion will take place and is working with Cheekwood on a long-term lease. When complete, as currently designed, the expansion is expected to generate probable revenues of nearly a quarter of a million dollars annually for the city. Franklin’s council of aldermen will vote on August 10 on the project.
