YPSILANTI – Eastern Michigan University today (October 20) held a groundbreaking ceremony for a $200 million initiative to transform on-campus housing and create better living and learning environments. dynamic and modern learning for its 15,000 students.
The three-year project, known as “Welcome Home 2025”, will include the construction of two completely new student residences: Lakeview Apartments and Westview Apartments. The new buildings have an additional 700 beds in an apartment-style layout. These new facilities will transform the campus landscape, with the Lakeview Apartments located next to the university’s student center and overlooking the pond and university park. The new Westview apartments will be located between the west side of campus, which includes many of the University’s athletics facilities, and the main campus.
In addition to new construction, Welcome Home 2025 includes renovations to all remaining residence halls on the University campus, with upgrades to include new air conditioning, new bathrooms, and state-of-the-art technology. Several older dwellings will be demolished as part of the plan. These include Best, Brown Munson, Buell, Hill, Hoyt, Pittman and the former Westview Apartments.

By design, shared amenity spaces and enhancements will facilitate social interaction and a sense of community, while supporting lifelong learning and general well-being to ensure a successful student population diversified. Planning efforts for the design and operation of the facilities involved an extensive four-month engagement process that included thousands of conversations and dialogue opportunities with faculty, staff, students, organizations, and campus stakeholders.
