Four people shot dead in front of Washington Nationals baseball stadium

WASHINGTON, July 17 (Reuters) – Some fans and players scrambled for cover during a professional baseball game in Washington on Saturday night as gunfire filled the stadium, and police said more late that four people had been shot outside.

Initially, it was not clear to fans whether the shooting took place inside the complex. Videos of the incident shared on social media showed some fans crowding into the third base dugout.

The District of Columbia Metropolitan Police Department previously said on Twitter that two people were shot outside the stadium.

He later said in a follow-up tweet that “two other victims associated with the incident entered area hospitals for treatment of gunshot wounds.”

The Washington Post reported that a man was shot in the leg and a woman in the back, with injuries that would not be life threatening, citing police.

A baseball game between the Washington Nationals and the San Diego Padres has been suspended following the shooting. Play is expected to resume Sunday, followed by the regular game.

The shooting took place in the sixth round.
