Leesburg, Virginia (May 9, 2022) –Leesburg City Manager Kaj Dentler announced today that Kara Rodriguez has been hired as the city’s public information officer.
Rodriguez succeeds Betsy Arnett, who was recently promoted to Senior Management Analyst.
“I am pleased to announce the selection of Kara Rodriguez as our next Public Information Officer,” Dentler said. “I believe Kara’s extensive experience in the media and local government makes her the ideal candidate for this role, and we are delighted that she is joining city government.”
Rodriguez is a longtime reporter in Loudoun County, exclusively covering Leesburg city government for nearly 15 years. During his time with the two Today and Loudoun Now newspapers, she has been repeatedly recognized by the Virginia Press Association for her local news coverage, recently won awards for her business, financial and technology writing, and her coverage of the sale of Leesburg Mobile Park. Additionally, Rodriguez currently serves on the Berryville City Council as a representative for Ward 4, a position she will continue to hold until her term expires at the end of the year. Rodriguez plays an active role on several government committees in Berryville and takes on several leadership roles at his daughters’ school. In the beginning Today days, she co-founded the Young Professionals group with the Loudoun Chamber of Commerce.
Rodriguez holds a liberal arts degree from New York University, where she studied journalism and political science. She is originally from Northern Virginia and resides with her family in Berryville.
