Schank named to Conference USA All-Academic team

DALLAS – Marshall volleyball senior Sarah schank has been named to Conference USA’s All-Academic squad, the league office said on Monday. This is the second time that Schank has been honored as an All-Academic selection.

“I’m so proud of Sarah and all of her hard work on and off the pitch throughout her career here at Marshall,” Herd head coach said. Ari Aganus noted. “It’s a huge honor she has worked hard for every day and which truly sets the student up as a student-athlete.”

Schank was named to the All-Academic squad in 2020-2021 and is one of five players on this year’s squad to have won honors in the past. Schank has a cumulative GPA of 3.71 in Finance and a minor in Entrepreneurship and Management. She finished her Marshall career 11th all-time with 1,175. The herd leader registered her 1,000th career dig at No.22 in the WKU, becoming the 14th member of the Marshall’s 1,000 Digs Club. Schank played her first two years at Marshall as an outside hitter, then transitioned to the Libero ahead of the 2020-21 season.

The Naperville, Ill. Native thrived in her new role setting records and was named the 2020-21 Conference Libero of the Year in the United States. This season, Schank has continued to roll with a career-high 473 digs, an average of 4.59 per set, which is tied for fourth in a single season in team history. She has totaled double-digit digs in 23 of 25 games and has had 20 or more 14 times. Schank set a season 34 record, tied for fifth in a game in team history, against Toledo. She recorded a career-high six aces, tied for fourth in team history, against Old Dominion.

Schank has been a leader on and off the pitch for Marshall. She has been heavily involved in the community and won the 2019 C-USA Fall Spirit of Service Award. Schank is a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner’s Honor Roll and is close to being ranked 4th for 4 by the end of the current academic year.
