Student-athletes awarded BFA Legends scholarships – The Royal Gazette

Five student-athletes are the latest recipients of the Bermuda Football Association’s Legend Scholarship program.

Koa Goodchild, Emily Cabral, Caleb MacDowall, Sachiel Ming and Che-Chulae Dowling received scholarships for embodying the spirit of local gaming legends.

Goodchild, a student at Howard University, received a scholarship in honor of former Young Men’s Social Club and Senior Women’s National Team player Nicole Jones.

Goodchild plays for newly crowned women’s league and Knockout Cup champions Somerset and the senior women’s national team.

Cabral received a scholarship honoring the legacy of Pamela Pace, considered a trailblazer who played on a men’s team at the Whitney Institute and in the former Eastern Football League.

Cabral, a student at Nova Southeastern University, is also a member of Somerset and the senior women’s national team.

Che-Chulae Dowling received a scholarship in honor of former West End Rovers, Somerset Colts, Somerset and Bermuda goalkeeper Clyde Burgess. Burgess enjoyed considerable success, winning the coveted Triple Crown, consisting of the league, the FA Cup and the Friendship Trophy with Somerset.

Jackson University student Dowling recently represented Bermuda in the Concacaf Women’s Under-20 Championship.

MacDowall is the recipient of the scholarship honoring former North Village and Bermuda player Larry Smith. Smith coached Village to the coveted Triple Crown and Somerset to the league and FA Cup double.

MacDowall, a student at Anderson University, plays for BAA and captained Bermuda to the Concacaf Under-20 Championship.

Sachiel Ming receives the 2022 Marcus Douglas Legends Fellowship (Photograph by Blaire Simmons)

Ming received the scholarship recognizing former Devonshire, Hamilton Parish and Bermuda Colts player Marcus Douglas, who was a member of the island’s 1967 Pan American Games silver medal-winning team.

Ming, a student at Northwood School, plays for Robin Hood at youth and senior level.
